30A FISHING: LEARNING CENTER
Family Fishing Charters on 30A
Every family fishing charter on 30A should feel like the easiest decision of your vacation, not a gamble on whether the kids will make it to hour three. At Shallow Water Expeditions, most of our guides are parents. We know what a day on the water with kids actually looks like, and we’ve built our family charter options around that reality.
All of our charters are kid-friendly across every area we fish: 30A, Choctawhatchee Bay, Destin, and Panama City Beach. The two below are our best recommendations for younger anglers.
Our Best Kid-Friendly Charter Options on 30A
Bay Boat Half-Day Trip: Our Top Pick for Families Fishing 30A
Our bay boat guides have been taking families out for years and know exactly how to pace a day that’s low-stress, high-fun, and produces fish.
The trip runs in calm, protected inshore waters of Choctawhatchee Bay and Panama City Beach, with no rough Gulf swells, no long runs, and no waiting. Just good fishing close to home base.
Our bay boats are 22–26 ft. deep-V hulls: wide, stable, and designed for exactly the kind of family day where comfort and safety come first.
- Pace is everything: Our guides understand that a trip with kids runs at a different speed. It’s about the experience, not the numbers.
- Flexible and fun: If the fish are cooperating, great. If the kids want to watch for dolphins or just ride around, that’s a great day too.
- Plenty of room: Bay boats accommodate up to 4–5 anglers, so the whole family fits comfortably.
Guide’s Note: We are not grumpy old salts who only want hardcore anglers on our boats. Well over half of our charters involve kids, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our guides are parents. We get it.

2-Hour Afternoon Kid Trip: The Perfect Short Adventure
Can’t get the kids up early? Not sure they’ll last four hours? We designed this one for exactly that situation.
The 2-Hour Afternoon Trip is a shorter charter built specifically for younger kids and families who want a taste of the water without a full-day commitment.
- Flexible departure: Afternoon by default, but can shift to mid-morning depending on the day and conditions. Whatever is enough time to let everyone get moving, grab breakfast, and actually get to the dock without a meltdown.
- Fish as much or as little as you want: These trips can involve as much or as little fishing as desired. Dolphin sightings, beach walks, and just being on the water are all part of it.
- Right-sized for little ones: Two hours is exactly long enough for a six-year-old to have the time of their life and be ready for ice cream afterward.
- $450 for 2 hours
Guide’s Note: Some of our best days on the water have been two-hour afternoon trips with a five-year-old who’d never held a fishing rod. That first fish changes everything.
